Surrey Hills 2013 Winners – Farleigh!
To draw a line under the 2013 competition, Surrey National hosted the end-of-season bash on Friday 1st. Players from Surrey National, Farleigh, Reigate, Surrey Downs and Woldingham lined up in mixed 5-man teams for Texas Scramble. The course was closed, shotgun starts setup and the rain did its best to stay away.
Starting with 3 birdies, spirits were high in our team. However our scores steadied somewhat and with a soft course and a field of very competitive players, I think we knew that some very good scores would be posted. And so it proved with the winner score of 55.9. Surrey National helped fill spaces in some teams, and it turned out that Bob McNally and our own ‘Condorman’ Colin Town featured in the winning 5man team. “Faaaantastic” Colin would no doubt say (lots of times!).
I thought the course stood up well despite the recent downpours and any thoughts of the soggy golf were swiftly dismissed during the post match drinks, carvery and prize giving. Steve from Surrey Downs did his best to clear the tureens of food all by himself (the competition had ended Steve), and we all enjoyed a very good meal and an excellent evening.
Farleigh strolled up and took the well deserved league trophy (and yes, Surrey National have an eye on it for next year under the captaincy of Mussolini Winkle).
Cracking day and thanks went to the course, the competitors and of course to big thanks to Sean who hosted the day with help from Winkle and Jerry, and led our team to a very close second.

Apologies for the image quality, I really have a p8ss poor camera on my phone!
