An overcast, but very mild Autumn afternoon, saw Surrey National turn out 20 mixed pairs for the Sutton Green Open yesterday. 40-strong, we made up about half or more of the field! The bemused faces of the non-SN lot at the dinner, faced with half the room being from one club was a sight.
A very enjoyable day had by all and we all but cleared up! Brian & Pam came in fourth, Lee and Jane came 3rd and Graham “CC” Loveless and Carol took the overall prize of new golf bags with a fantastic score of 44. Playing with Graham, I have to admit he played very well – living up to his CC nickname – ably partnered with dead-eye Carol, whose constant grinning was never diminished before-during-after she knocked balls dead (or in) from anywhere on the green! A deserved win!
Sutton Green is a good track, with some tricky doglegs, decent rough and it is clearly is maturing well. The greens definitely needed respect and some clever use of water made a number of holes especially interesting.
Special thanks to Phil for organising the SN lot, taking the money and making the host Captain’s job much easier. I think we helped the Pro Shop clear some considerable space with their clothing sale too!
