Swashbucklers 7 SMUGS 9
I think we recorded the same result last year with our first match against the SMUGS with a minor loss of 9-7, and for a change there was some high quality golf played within all of the matches. I had to make a team change early Sunday due to single and double players feeling more comfortable. The final team which went out and who they played were as follows:
- Sean Savedra & Steve Mcnally vs The Austins (Tom & Dennis)
- Scottie Yule & Jez Parfit vs Clive Heard & Jez Richardson
- Strongbow & Mr Doran vs Andy Lambros & Mark Woodruff
- Lee Feasey & Gollopost vs Roy & Tony
- Alan (Jimmy) Savill vs John Vicars
- Lee Snashfold vs Paul Gilbody
- Wayne Nowak vs Neil Lawrence
- Tony Betteridge vs David Fielding
Each match was played in tremendous spirit with exception of the 2nd to last singles as we can all imagine.
With our unbeaten pairing of Mr Savedra and Mr Mcnally along with Scottie “I’m on fire” Yule and Jez “I need a proper handicap” Parfitt going out first and second in the pairs I felt we would come straight in with two wins, but this strategic plan back fired as they both came in with loses of 1 down for Sean and Steve and a 2&1 loss for Scottie & Jez, not the start I envisaged.
But then with a dramatic call up for Mr Matty “on form” Strongbow along with his pairing with Jim seemed to be the start of something very special as they came in with a 2 up win, with one very special mention to Mr Doran as he excelled with a gross 76, great shooting James.
So being 4 – 2 down on points with 3 games in who else would you want apart from the pairing of Lee “all hail captain” Feasey & Allan “big hitting salmon” Gollop who came in with the biggest winning margin of the day 3&2, I would like to give myself special mention as I excelled coming in with a gross 72 level par for the first time ever, “I Thank you”. So after the 4 pairings it was tied at 4-4.
The singles were all very close matches, first up was Jimmy who shot 38 points to only lose 2&1 to Mr Vicars who also excelled coming in with a gross 74, so not much Jimmy could do there.
Next up was the one and only Mr CPFC himself Lee Snashfold who was defeated 1 down by steady eddy Mr Gilbody, there were not many fairways or greens missed in regulations in this match as you can imagine.
Now to the very interesting 4 ball involving 2 singles matches of Wayne Nowak vs Neil Lawrence and Tony B vs David Fielding. As we all know it is not very often we would rather be shopping with the missus than playing golf but I am sure David had a different opinion Sunday morning after seeing his company. Mr Betteridge came in with a 2 up win, well played Tony. Waynus had 2 putts for the win to level the match on 8 a piece and decided to 3 jab, which resulted in the match being drawn with Neil, who held a reasonable putt.
So we lost 9-7 but it is not a large margin to make up compared to the early birds from Saturday. Our next match is against the early birds on Sunday 30th November.
