Editorial control deferred to me as the email was led with “Hi Huge. This report sent under the influence of a couple of beverages”
The day started with a surprise, as Pamela was with Brian as he picked me up from home at 07.00. A cunning plan on Brian’s behalf as I then knew the day would end in a mess… Good or bad! Meeting Mr Little shortly after 07.30, he was a bit hesitant on who he was going to field in his team but nevertheless I was sure that I had the best possible team available for the occasion. I do have to admit when David & I revealed our teams I knew we had to come up with a decent score to beat Bob’s Bashers for a place in the finals.
My opening pair of Robert Hance & Paul Daly vs. David Little & Sunil.
A first win from Paul who putted like a demon – terrific start with an impressive 4 & 2 win.
Second team out, the mainstay of the pairs Brian & John (or is it John & Brian).
Once again they brought home the bacon (or some sort of vegetable) even though Johnny tried to cut Brian in half on the third hole they are still on speaking terms after winning 2up.
Third pair out represented the senior section with myself and senior captain David Crouch playing against Allan Vassay & Gordon Thompson.
Allan and Gorden were a formidable pair who dovetailed well. By his own admission, David did not putt well and he carried me most of the 18 holes but the better pair won 2 & 1 in the end. The Early Birds first points – a very enjoyable round with a few expletives & club chucking made it a thoroughly good match.
Last pairing Denzil Hope & Martin Champion playing Keith Oakley & Richard Donovan.
Another game played in the right spirit. As Denzil was playing the second hole a player from the sixth hole managed to drive his ball onto Denzil’s head knocking him out. Keith & Richard said they would come off to get Denzil some medical treatment and call it a half… No! said Denzil. So with with concussion & brain damage, “lets play on” so the ruthless buggers Keith & Richard took them to the cleaners so more points to the Early Birds winning 6 & 5. I did speak to him this evening and he said he was feeling a bit woosie (so obviously Teresa was not at home) but I am sure we all wish him a speedy recovery and be assured that he will tell you all the true story time and time again.
Graham Adams V Stuart Massey. With not a sign of yesterdays performance or even grass/breakfast stains The Large was immense winning by 2holes.
Bryan Hogben V Andy Gorman. The cabbie had a fairway to go but not enough knowledge top beat Bryan 3 & 2 another win to the Originals.
Graham Loveless vs David Jackson. Captain “CC” promised a performance until drawn against a certain Mr David Jackson, who giving away an enormous amount of shots, managed to pip Graham at the post losing 2 & 1.
Match 8 The scratch match. Our very own Matt Stock V Jackson Massey. I was informed that Matt could not buy a birdie but managed 18 pars to beat Jackson 2&1 a match you probably would have paid to caddy.
The result 10 – 6 to the Originals a terrific result that has put us in the finals!
The after drinks and stories were immense as usual and a big thank you for the chauffeurs for getting us home safely
