Jolly Boys Portugal Tour 2017

November 1, 2017 by Hew 1 Comment

Posted on behalf of Graham ‘Jolly Boy’ Adams

After a year of expectation and wind ups in a flash the tour is over and bragging rights have been established for another year.

We welcomed two new players to the tour this year. Terry, Mick’s friend from Horsham and Arshad, Mushie’s and Asif’s friend and renowned knee surgeon from Lytham St Annes. Sadly we said goodbye to Monarch Airlines who decided that rather than put up with our tour they would rather go bust!

As always the battle for the top individual prize was a tight run affair with Prit overtaking both Asif and Arshad on the last day pipping them by just 3 points over 6 rounds of golf. Individual winners on the day were spread around the group:

  • Day 1 Prit Pinhnal
  • Day 2 Asif Vale de Lobo (Ocean)
  • Day 2 Bob Palmares
  • Day 4 Mick Salgardos
  • Day 5 Arshad Monte Rei
  • Day 6 Graham Old Course

The wooden spoon, er well toilet seat was picked up by Terry, who isn’t attached to a golf course at the moment so had a tough time trying to compete with the experienced golfers amongst us. He battled well but did run out of balls at the Salgardos water resort, however was rescued by a kindly local who flogged him a bag of 15 so he could continue terrorising the ducks.

We altered our pairs competition this year, allowing defending champions Mushie and Prit to defend from last year whist the rest of us went into a draw. From that draw Barry picked Arshad, and they went on to win by a comfortable ONE point.

Our annual old’uns v young’uns normally ends in a draw, however the young’ns captained by the very young Graham ran out easy winners. (The hat first time next year Capt’n Pugwash for putting the scores around the wrong way incidentally).

The Jolly Boys 2017 – young un’s vs. old un’s

Top courses Monte Rei and Old Course, bottom, wont go there again, Salgardos although Mick liked it for some reason – probably all the Euros he won!

Top humour and very friendly as always. Next year will be a time for a change and Cyprus may well be our destination, but Brian is checking out Mission Hills for us in early January 😊

Only 11 months 21 days to go.

    Give us a smile Bob!
Very very impressive knees Asif… either of which would have been worthy of the featured image on the news page for this post.
