A seriously glorious day in early March for a Charity Day. Early morning mist was swiftly burnt away and revealed the course in fantastic condition, the greenkeepers really did a great job.
Format of the day was team stableford with best two scores per hole counted. Each hole was assigned a challenge, from using woods only, 7irons only, putting with woods, nearest pins, longest drives etc.
Our TeamAssig didnt fair too well, ‘steady eddie’ play at best. Guest Brian’s drive on the 6th hole was of note. After line advice was offered to “hit it down the left side, let it run in” Brian smashed it right, very right… clearing the rough, the 2nd fairway, more rough and then buggy path on the first fairway. Impressive. Still, the Jezza’s malt loaf was very well received.
The auction and prize-giving went well compered ably by Mr Loveless and at the end of the day, the amount raised was in excess of £7,000 in aid of the the National Autism and Alzheimer’s Societies. Both of their representatives spoke very well during a lovely roast dinner lunch.
Biggest cheer of the day I think went to the gallant losers (and 18th hole sponsors) LiveWire, a close second was the cheer that went with “CC” Loveless’ announcement that this would be his last event as Captain. All in good jest… I think.
The biggest Boo of the day went as expected to the overall winners – TeamMacve – who scored a superb 93points as a team.
CC Loveless lived up to his nickname making me look a bit of a charlie at the prize giving for a nearest the pin. That won’t be forgotten Graham. Matt Strong would like everyone to know he beat Graham Adams by 36yards on the longest drive. Thats 36 yards apparently Graham. 36.
Update from CC Loveless expected shortly, please check back soon.
