“The Old Buggers have done it”
They did it by 2 on the day and 2 going into it. Well deserved Bob’s Bashers. Wily old campaigners all, they turned it around from non-qualifying last year to being top of the tree this year.
Nothing really between the teams as we went into the finals day (especially not the Early Birds… sorry Mr Little/Karup/Thompson etc etc).
Teams were mapped out, playing partners found and battle commenced. Thanks to Mr Matt Stock who helped the day and took time to put all the teams on the whiteboard.
Greens were challenging – very close to being good (give them another week or so), but not all putts were behaving making scores varied and ‘interesting’. Wayne bought in 39 points, well done – best on the day?, poor old Lee payed well for 33 and came last in his group (wouldve won ours and several others).
Captain Jeff takes the cup
At the risk of being very even handed for a Swashbuckler, I think it’s only good for the annual event. Bob’s will be out to retain and prove it wasnt a one-off, Swashbucklers will certainly be up for another winning charge, SMUGS quietly planning club domination, Originals taking drinks off everyone, and of course, our old friends the Early Birds licking their wounds and smartening themselves up under the leadership of a certain Gev Nebbling.
Whilst technically my opponent on the day it was fan-tash-tish (to quote the Dutchman himself), to see a fellow Swindler him get a hole in one on the windy 3rd hole. Teeing off third in our group, he drilled a 6iron ‘under’ the wind and it bounced just before the green. Satisfied with the strike with both turned and barely saw the ball drop into the hole. Cheers went up and handshakes and photos all round. 1 for 5points. Awesome. Didnt help that of his 3 playing partners we all blobbed it. So 5 points, blob x3 went on the scorecard.
Of all the days to do it (with such a busy clubhouse), Henk was taking the inevitable bar bill in his stride scoring 31 overall and putting a winning 3 team points into the mix for the Originals.
